Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (pictured above as everyone’s favorite incestuous twin, Jamie Lannister) and Romola Garai are set to star in a film about an 14th-century knight (Coster-Waldau) who decides to rescue a woman (Garai) in a very spooky, very haunted forest.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be directed by Joanna Coates (Hide & Seek) and was written by Sam Hoare (A Gentleman in Moscow). The film takes place in 1350 England where Coster-Waldau’s Sir Peter comes home with his teenaged son after years on the road, and finds his homeland ravaged by plague, social unrest, and fearful superstition. One of the first things he does after his return is save a witch from burning, much to the disgruntlement of the village folk. To make amends for saving a life, he vows to save another life by going into the woods to rescue Fraya (Garai), the latest person to disappear there.

In the woods, things apparently get trippy. He finds Fraya and her “possessed” daughter—but realizes they may be fleeing from the patriarchy and not in need of rescue. What a conundrum! And who knows? Maybe this will be the next Green Knight.

The film is produced by HanWay Films, Alex Cook for 10 08 Films Ltd., and Coster-Waldau, Steve Bakken, and Joe Derrick for Ill Kippers.

“The Middle Ages and classic fairy tales present an elemental world that reinforces the patriarchal order with knights in shining armour saving damsels in distress,” Gabrielle Stewart, CEO of HanWay Films, told THR. “Virtue takes you on a thrilling and scary ride, subverting this world and challenging the gender and power structures it protects.”

No news yet on when Virtue will make its way to a screen near you.
